A supermoon occurs when a full moon nearly coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth (perigee), making it appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than at its farthest point.
The 2026 Geminids meteor shower, one of the year's most prolific, is active from December 4–20, with peak activity expected on the night of December 13–14, 2026. Observers can expect up to 120–150+ meteors per hour (ZHR) at its peak, with the best viewing time being around 2 a.m. local time.
